Paralegals are specially trained to help attorneys serve their clients’ legal needs. This includes helping them prepare for hearings and trials by gathering information/evidence, researching legal precedents and other information and locating and interviewing witnesses. A paralegal is passionate about the letter of the law, is an expert researcher, and an excellent writer who is able to draft legal documents and summarize depositions quickly and easily.
Even though they work closely with clients, paralegals are not attorneys and therefore are not qualified to give legal advice. Many paralegals find they love the profession and use their experience as a stepping stone to law school.
A paralegal is not a legal assistant, however, sometimes there is overlap in responsibilities. Paralegals tend to have responsibilities that relate to the technical aspects of law.
