  • Sweet spot: $35,000-$50,000
  • Major cities: $40,000-$60,000
  • Other markets: $25,000-$45,000
  • Hourly: $15-25/hour   Sweet Spot: $18-21/hour
  • Bonus: Customary

Receptionists are often the first point of contact for an organization and as such need to be friendly, helpful and provide a welcoming environment. They must be very organized and able to provide great customer service and perform a variety of administrative tasks. They are also the gatekeepers of the company and often determine who gets access to the professionals in the office. Organizations often provide on-the-job training for receptionists to ensure that they are well-informed on specific office procedures & policies, familiar with the staff that they will support and knowledgeable about the inner workings of the company.

Job Description

  • Answer and route phone calls in an effective and courteous manner
  • Greet guests, answer their questions and connect them with the appropriate person in the organization
  • Keep the reception area presentable and professional
  • Have proficiency with basic office equipment; telephone systems, switchboards, computers, fax machines and copiers
  • Perform clerical duties and maintain a good filing system for records and documents
  • Schedule meetings and update appointment calendars
  • Log visitor requests and calls and route any that require further correspondence
  • Sort and distribute mail and receive deliveries
  • Keep track of all supplies and order new inventory, as needed
  • Validate parking tickets
